SEATTLE, WA - Steve Lannen's youth, which delighted countless people in the United States and around the world over the course of nearly five decades, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, in Seattle, Washington. It was 49 years old.
Lannen's youth brought many twists and turns, from reporting on grisly crime scenes as a journalist in Kentucky to hosting elaborate parties at the group house he shared with several friends in Washington, DC. Unconstrained by geographical boundaries, Lannen's youth took him to locales as varied as Baghdad and Buenos Aires.
Lannen's youth is survived by an older, wiser, more deliberate and more plodding version of Lannen. In lieu of flowers, please send donations of beer, wine and ideally liquor to Lannen in loving memory of his departed youth.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Early on in our time dating, a time when we were both on the road quite a bit and really savored the little time we had together, we would often have a cozy meal at Alice's tiny apartment and work our way through a series. We watched the Harry Potter films (Alice hadn't seen) and were captivated by "Chernobyl" on HBO.
But one of the most enjoyable and memorable wasn't quite such high profile. It was the Discovery documentary about a local Kentucky murder that had Steve as its star (at least in our eyes). We were not only gripped by the story, but live-texted our entire viewing experience to Christina. Basically, it needed more Steve. A review of a documentary that frankly applies to much of life. Not long after things changed for us -- a campaign, a move, another move, marriage, another move, a kid, another move, another kid, etc etc -- but that night's low budget look at Stamping Ground, Kentucky remains a core memory from our early days. Unlike our first tiki party as a couple, which is a total blur.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – While Steve and Christina may have moved across the country, their leafy legacy remains rooted in D.C. The trees they entrusted to Nat and Karly of Columbia Heights before their departure are standing strong—thriving (mostly), weathering the seasons and the Trump Administration, and undoubtedly missing their original caretakers.
Though they no longer get their daily words of encouragement from Steve, they continue to grow as a reminder of the wonderful friends who once called this city home. Wishing Steve a fantastic 50th—here’s to many more years of growth, both for him and his transplanted greenery!

One of Heather's fondest memories of Steve revolves around food, which sounds about right for most people who have been to one of Steve's many themed parties - one of which is the Cinco de Derby, blending those very American institutions of Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby, both in the first week of May.
Steve is renowned for his Hot Browns, which is a delectable mixture of turkey, gruyere and bechamel sauce. He has the real recipe but in the meantime, please enjoy this one!

Dahna Fox
1947-2018
Dahna Fox passed away peacefully surrounded by family with a big smile on her face after having had a full life of children and grandchildren-- and about the best lap dance ever given.
Dahna was no dummy when it came to lap dances. She knew sexy. Some might say Dahna was expert. Having founded the first woman-owned in-home sex toy company and having served as the mystery sex advice consultant on a local radio in the 80s, Madame Q, she was ahead of her time- and an expert in all things that make you go hmmm....
Her family recalls her wondering, after this life altering moment - "where did that sexy man learn those moves? He could salsa like the Colombians." She remarked in surprise.
It was really more than anyone could expect from a simple backyard family bar mitzvah party, least of which Dahna. She came for bagels and lox-- no one imagined she'd get this kind of l'cahim!
GEORGETOWN, SEATTLE - While Steve Lannen has had many pets in his lifetime (see: Gallery where he has multiple pets), he has professed a desire to not own one and does not exhibit the same sort of...enthusiasm his partner, Christina, seems to have any time an animal crosses her path.
However, one cat has caught his attention - Bom Bon, government name Frida. She comes over daily, meows to be let in, and instantly makes herself at home. And while it did take over a year to wear him down, Steve eventually has given in.
Steve is not sure her actual owners (our neighbors) know about her coming over every day, but he hopes they don't mind.
POULSBO, WA - Local Georgetown couple tied the knot last year at the Kiana Lodge, which is technically Poulsbo but not really. Steve Lannen and Christina Iskandar met ten years prior in 2014 on OK Cupid, which means yes, you too can potentially meet the love of your life on a free website that makes you take quizzes to test your compatability.
PLACENTIA, CA – Up-and-coming brewery aptly named The Bruery is famous for their selection of craft beers and for being meticulous for their flavors. Steve Lannen, TSLT restaurant critic, found their sour beers to be "too sour" and while he appreciated their beers having an average of an 8-9% ABV, he cannot help but make the sour pucker face every time he tries one.
